This project began not with a theory, but with a question: if we designed civilization from scratch today, knowing everything we know, what would we build?
The Founder
Bob Cecil has spent 50 years watching the world’s systems fail the people they were supposed to serve. He was an early adopter of microcomputers in 1976, the internet in 1995, Bitcoin near its beginning, and AI in November 2022 — not because he chased trends, but because he recognized transformative moments when they arrived.
Eight years ago, he began asking a different question. Not “how do we fix the current system” — but “what would we build if we could build anything?” Team Humanity is the answer that emerged from that question.
The project is guided by a single operating principle: “If it has to be, it’s up to me.” And by the recognition that AI has become what Bob calls “the steam engine of the mind.”

The Co-Founder
Lloyd — PhD Mathematics and Immigration Law — has been Bob’s friend since age 14 and a core contributor to Team Humanity for nine years. He surfaced the sortition idea and is the designated lead on the selection algorithm, cryptographic verifiability, and planetary-scale governance design. He is the first member of the TH Founding Council.
